Yesterday, I finally visited The Chocolate Room in park slope. I met up with a friend for some tea and chocolate goodness. I totally over indulged in a hot fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream but I only ate half. (I swear!) Here are few delicious photos from my visit. Yum!

If you use impossible film, you have to shield it from the light for at least the first 4 minutes for the image to appear. Sometimes, I forget or I can't get the image into my camera bag fast enough and I'll lose the image. <super loud sigh> Then, I found out that they invented the Impossible PX Shade. It slips into your SX-70 front slot and blocks every image from the sun. Brilliant!

Happy Chinese New Year! It's the Year of the Dragon which means Hong Kong is in full celebration mode. It's hard to believe that we've been home for almost a year but I especially miss Hong Kong around the new year. I've had my eye on this polaroid grey label instant mobile printer for a while now. I want to be able to print out my iphone & instagram photos but I don't have a printer big (small?) enough to do so. The prints are 3x4" and come out within 45 seconds. Looks like I have another thing to save up for! Hooray!

Last week, I stopped by my favorite florist, Opalia in Brooklyn, to pick up flowers for my latest photography project. I wanted to take still life photos of flowers on a black backdrop which is something I've never done before. I was so happy to see that they had my favorite flowers, Peonies, in stock. I waited a few days for them to open, setup a little studio in the aparmtment (which was also a first!) and took photos. Here are a few of my favorite. Enjoy!

Today's for the bride was inspired over my holiday vacation. We went to see "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" which was absolutely fantastic! Before the show started, I thought about how fun it would be to have a broadway themed engagement session. So, here goes...

No.1 Broadway lights in the background, just out of focus, creating beautiful bokeh. So dreamy. No.2 Vintage Playbill's would be a great accessory in the shoot. No.3 Queue the vintage lights like these from Restoration Hardware! No. 4 Why not split one of new york city's famous giant pretzels walking down the great white way together. Sounds Delish!

Visiting the Tree at Rockefeller Center has become a holiday tradition for us. It's always crowded but once you actually make past the crowds, you get a bit of room to breathe. The sheer anticipation of seeing the Tree in person never gets old and this year was no different. I took photos of our visit and couldn't resist taking few bokeh shots towards the end. Enjoy!

Welcome to 2012!! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a happy new year! We traveled a lot, visited the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center, saw a broadway musical, visited friends, and ate way too much! The New Year is a great way to have a fresh start and recharge your batteries. I like to write down my goals each New Year and do my best to follow through. Here are my new goals for 2012:

Photograph Amazing Weddings in 2012! When I decided to become a wedding photographer, I found my out what my true passion is. I absolutely love being able to capture someone's special day.
Stop comparing myself to other's. This one is going to be the hardest but I'm going to try my best. I think that inspiration is key to growth but sometimes, I get down on myself which is not beneficial to my self-esteem.
Read more books! Since joining the Brooklyn Public Library, I've been reading non-stop! I love learning and expanding my knowledge base.
Take more photographs & polaroids. I'm going to make new photography projects for each month and share them here on the blog.

I'm patiently awaiting my macro lens band from photojojo to arrive. (it's totally sold out till 2012!) It's a rubber band with a built in macro lens that enables you to take super close up photos with your phone. Great for detail shots (food/lights) and I can use it as an emergency hair tie too! I'm excited!

Union Square Holiday Market, New York

We visited the Union Square Holiday Market this past weekend and picked up some goodies for our friends & family! I absolutely love supporting local vendors and buying unique, one of a kind gifts that will be special for each person. We noticed that they had a lot more food and food vendors this year which was great. I enjoyed one of those large, warm pretzels while toting around my purchases. If you haven't visited, I would suggest stopping by during the middle of the day. It's less crowded and you can actually see what's for sale. Happy shopping!

Recently, I had to send in my my Lowepro Classified Sling camera bag for repair because the side handle was detaching from the bag. I was concerned that the strap would completely come out, I'd drop my bag and ruin my camera gear. I simply enclosed a handwritten note saying I'd like to swap it out for a Nova 200 if they were going to replace the bag instead of repair it. Not only did they send me a brand new Lowepro Nova 200 AW bag but since my sling was more expensive, they also sent me a Nova 170 bag to make up the difference. What great customer service!!! Seriously, I love Lowepro! My Nova 200 AW is exactly what I needed and fits all of my equipment in one awesome bag. It also comes with a built in weather cover for those unexpected down pours which happen a lot in NYC during the summer. Thank you Lowepro for making my experience super awesome and pleasant!

upgrades & apples at brooklyn heights farmers market

We missed apple picking this year but when I stopped by our local Brooklyn Heights Farmer's Market they had a ton of ripe and delicious apples on display. Golden Delicious, Rome, Granny Smiths (my fave!) and even some candied apples were there too! I just upgraded my slow 28-300mm 3.5-5.6 lens to the Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 lens. These photos were my first time taking her out for a few test shots. I absolutely LOVE it! I was a bit hesitate to get a zoom (i prefer prime lenses) but this lens if FAST and SHARP! It's a wedding photographers "must-have" and now I officially have it. Hooray!

A few weeks ago, I met up with my good friends Kristen & Keith to photograph them for their holiday card and family portraits. We met up at Prospect Park Zoo in Brooklyn and caught the leaves right at their peak. Can you believe these colors? (seriously, these photos have NOT been touched at all!) I absolutely love this time of year. The parties, the sparkle and I have an affinity to holiday music. From the day after Thanksgiving till Christmas, holiday music is playing non-stop throughout the apartment. I look forward to updating my playlist every year with a few new holiday albums. This year I just added: Pink Martini - Joy to the World, Michael Bublé - Christmas and She & Him - A Very She & Him Christmas to my holiday playlist. A little jazz, a little vintage and all brand new. Love it!

I've been a fan of Wedding Photographer Jasmine Star for a while now. As I'm starting my own Wedding Photography career, Jasmine is someone that I look too for advice and support even though I've actually never met her before. She shares constantly on her blog and on the [B] school which is what I absolutely respect and admire about her. Oh, and she's a great photographer to boot!

When I found out that she published her own magazine about the first two years of her photography career, I jumped at the chance to own this limited publication. EXPOSED arrived and did NOT disappoint. I read it in one sitting. It was inspiring, helpful and just what the new-girl-on-the-block needed to read. If you believe in yourself and work hard, you can do anything. I am thankful everyday that I get to do what I love: take photographs. Thanks Jasmine for making me take a breath and focus on what's important. I needed that!

In my family, everyone chips in for Thanksgiving dinner. My stepdad makes the turkey, stuffing and gravy, my mom makes the cranberries, my sister makes the mashed potatoes, my cousin makes the butternut squash soup and I make the stuffed mushroom's and brussel sprouts. For my husband's contribution this year, He baked his delicious homemade bread and focaccia. They didn't last more that two minutes out of the oven! Here a few photos from the beginning of the day and the "before & after" of our turkey! gobble, gobble.

I can't believe that Thanksgiving is tomorrow which means that Christmas & New Year's are right around the corner. Where did this year go? Wasn't I just moving to Hong Kong? Didn't I just get married? This year just flew by!

So, what am I thankful for? Well, not to be too cheesy but I'm most thankful for my husband. Last year, when I eloped and married the man of my dreams, my life changed in ways that I had never imagined. I quit my 9-to-5 job, packed three suitcases, moved to Hong Kong for our "unofficial" 4 month honeymoon and traveled Asia. We honeymooned in Thailand, Australia and Vietnam. Simply the most amazing and romantic experience of my life. In April, we moved back to brooklyn and I started to build my photography business with the help of my husband. I couldn't have done any of this without his amazing support and advice. He's the best business partner anyone could hope for and without him, there would not be a brklyn view photography. Honestly, I don't think I can ever repay him for believing in me but of course that won't stop me from trying! My husband is my best friend, my partner-in-crime and most importantly, the love of my life.

I'm also thankful to everyone who reads this blog & supports my photography. Without you, I don't know what I'd do! I want to wish you all a wonderful & warm thanksgiving. Spend it with your families and the people you love the most. I know that I am! So, what are you thankful for? Would love to hear from you!

2011 ING NYC Marathon

On Sunday November 6th, I went out to support one of my closest friends who was running in the 2011 ING NYC Marathon for the very first time. She trained for months and finished 14 minutes ahead of schedule! (yay! so proud of her) It was also my first time going to the marathon and I just loved the excitement it brought out in everyone. There were crowds of spectators cheering on these amazing runners throughout the five boro's which was really special. We cheered from Prospect Park to Central Park and of course I brought my camera to capture all the excitement and madness (see the funny photos below). Enjoy!

It's getting cold here in the city which got me thinking, wouldn't it be super sweet to have an engagement session at an ice skating rink on a gorgeous winter afternoon? Yep, thought so! There's The Pond at Bryant Park and Central Park's Wollman Rink right here in New York. You could hold hands around the rink, try to do some twists and fall down laughing all the way. Here a few picks I would bring to the session. Fun!

So, I don't know about you but I hate that every morning I have to crawl under my desk and find my laptop power cord or audio in cable so I can listen to music on our house speakers while I edit photos. Solution: CableDrops at the Container Store (of, course!). They stick to your desk or any surface really and hold your cables in place. Genius!

Holly & Mike Wedding at Good Fellowship Farm, Westminster MD

I am so excited to share Holly & Mike's gorgeous wedding held at the brides family farm in Westminster Maryland. It was a chilly October day but the sun peeked out to say hello right after the ceremony. The bride looked absolutely stunning in her 1930's vintage slip dress that is believed to be part of a parachute from WWI. Family and friends all pitched in to make Holly & Mike's wedding truly special and represent who they are as a couple. Holly's mother took care of the amazing decorations, a friend made their stunning wedding cakes (yes, cakes!), and several friends were the musical entertainment. I feel so lucky to have been apart of their special day and I wish lots of love and happiness to the newlywed's! They are an amazing couple. Enjoy!

I recently had to rent a Nikon D700 body for a wedding and my local stores (B+H & Adorama) were closed for holidays. The camera arrived right on time, was in excellent condition and functioned beautifully on the day. We visited central park a few weeks ago to catch the changing of the leaves but they were still green with hints of yellow. Of course that didn't stop me from taking a few photos. it's been a great year!

It's hard to believe that it's been a year since I got married but we just celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary! I married the love of my life and I get to spend the rest of it with him by my side. I really am the luckiest girl in the world. We celebrated at my favorite fancy restaurant in brooklyn, the famous River Café. It was everything this girl could ask for!

So, I've got a few things on my birthday wish list this year. Yup, I'm going to be another year older on Monday so why not lessen the pain with a few things that will make my laugh lines happy.

No.1 the new apple iPhone 4S. It's a needed upgrade to my current 3GS which is super slow and the camera acts up every time I open it. No.2 Book of Mormon Tickets. It's not gonna happen till 2014 but hey, a girl can dream! No.3 Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate from Williams and Sonoma. I absolutely love hot coco in the winter and this flavor is right up my alley. No.4 J.Crew ballet flats in gold. These are the perfect pick me up to a drab winter. Love!

I finally got to watch the documentary Bill Cunningham New York this weekend and I really loved it. He's such an New York icon that if I ever saw his famous blue coat on Madison Ave, I think I would be grinning from ear to ear. It showcases his career as a photographer, a bit of his personal life and his absolute love for clothes. I also really enjoyed the interviews from his subjects to his peers. It's a must-see!

NYC Wedding Week - Martha Stewart Weddings Bridal Market Party

It's Wedding Week in New York! On Monday, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Martha Stewart Weddings Bridal Market Party thanks to my dear friend T. (thanks again!) The party was hosted at Martha Stewart's headquarters which is always exciting to visit. We were welcomed with pink glowing rings, a violinists and DJ to get the party going. Martha Stewart Weddings showcased their favorite vendors and they did not disappoint. We sipped Swanson Modern Wines (cutest bottle ever!), tasted samples of gelato from eCreamery, cupcakes from Creme Delicious, pizza from Eddie's Pizza Truck, got our makeup touched up from Vensette , took funny photos in The Booth's photobooth and had our names handwritten on pink buttons by Carol Zack. I really enjoyed discovering new vendors but the highlight of the night (at least for me) was seeing Martha Stewart herself. I just adore (ok, ok....love) her! Until the next party....

Yesterday was really beautiful in New York City. We headed out to Central Park to walk the Mall, visit the Boat House and see the changing leaves. Although the leaves weren't as vibrant as we hoped, it was a wonderful few hours enjoying nature. Hope you had a lovely weekend too!

Last week, I headed down to DUMBO to visit Jane's Carousel located in Brooklyn Bridge Park. It's simply beautiful and I'm so happy it found a home in Brooklyn. I like to make lists. Each day I write my daily "to-do" list which helps my sometimes "wandering brain" figure out what to do next. To me, there's nothing more satisfactory than crossing something off my hand written list. I just started using Archie Grand "I met and liked" series of notebooks. They have different professions (ie. doctors, secret agents) printed on each cover and spine but this "artists" is my favorite!

On saturday, We visited the Atlantic Antic which is one of my favorite "fests" in the city. If you've never been, they close down Atlantic Avenue from Hicks to Third Ave and fill the streets with local vendors, artists and entertainers. I fell in love with Jeffery Burke's Plexi Glass Collage of a women holding a vintage camera. I hope it will be joining our growing collection of art in the apartment soon. oh, and photos of the antic coming next week!

Design*Sponge at Home signing at West Elm, NYC

I have to admit that the Design*Sponge at Home book signing was one of the nicest signings I've ever been too. It was a private event (no shoppers) just for the fans which was so nice. They had cocktails and champagne upon your arrival, passed yummy hors d'oeuvres, hosted a smilebooth with super cute props and somehow maintained a relaxed atmosphere. Sometimes I feel like I'm on a herding line at signings but Design*Sponge and West Elm really did a great job. Grace Bonney signed books in the middle of the room and I was really excited to meet her. If you're in a town where the book tour is stopping, I would highly recommend it. Happy reading!

Yesterday, I went to my very first fashion presentation for the amazing line WHIT at the Gramercy Terrace. I absolutely loved the prints, colors and fabrics. I ~~want~~, no, NEED that blue dress and bow necklace next spring! My friends, Whitney and Zonda, started the line just about a year ago and I'm so proud of what they've already accomplished. Tribute of Lights

Last Thursday, I ran out to the promenade when I saw the September 11th Tribute of Lights being tested. I wasn't going to be here on Sunday so I wanted to take a few long exposures to capture the sky. It was a clear night and I really like the way they came out. Enjoy!

September 11th, Ten Years Later

While I was going through my archived photos, I found these images from Sept. 11th, 2002. It was exactly one year after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. They are blurry and are not exposed properly. I can't even remember what camera I had at the time but it doesn't matter, the images still speak to me. Especially the two women wearing the American Flag. We gathered on the promenade to pay our respects to the people who died and be with other New Yorkers. There were make shift memorials with candles and flowers scattered along the walk way.

It's been 10 years and a lot has changed but We Will Never Forget. New york, I love you.

Welcome to my new series called "for the insert name here". I've been thinking about how to incorporate some of my other interests on the blog and how to help people with their photographic needs. So "for the______" was born! Maybe it's what makeup to use so you aren't shiny or some good locations for your engagement sessions. These are things that I'm always thinking about so why not share them? Ok, here we go...

Today's for the bride is for someone looking to make (or jazz up) their photobooth. I absolutely am in love with No.1 Confetti System Tassel Garland (I will own a strand one day). It can brighten up any boring backdrop instantly. No.2 The greydient backdrop from Drop-It Modern looks awesome and isn't over powering. They are inexpensive and can dress up any plain reception hall in a snap. No.3 Instax Mini 7 is the replacement to the Polaroid Mio (no longer in production). I love that the photos can be put on pin board or in an guestbook immediately. There's no waiting! No.4. I'm over the whole "mustache-on-a-stick" craze but I love these handheld chalkboards. Have something funny to say? Write it out and take a photo!

big wave bay, hong kong

So, I bet you didn't know that you could go surfing in Hong Kong, did you? Well, neither did I until we hiked the Dragon's Back and ended up in the cutest surf town called Big Wave Bay. That's when I found out that there was another way of living in Hong Kong. There were surfers in the water and beach goers on the sand. It was cold and everyone was bundled up but the sun was out. People lived in little houses rather than tiny apartments. They had full size dogs and seemed to like living on the slower side of the island. It reminded me that once a week, my husband and I would escape from the congestion of the city and visit the small towns &amp;amp; islands to get some space and relax. People ask me "If I miss Hong Kong?". Yes, I do miss Hong Kong but I'm happy to be home and have my photos to remind me. Enjoy!

Last night, while I was looking for something in the linen closet, I discovered that some liquid cleaner had leaked (yes, LEAKED!) on to my container of camera's. I almost had a heart attack thinking that my old, vintage & out of production polaroids and film carmera's were ruined by liquid toilet cleaner. After some cleaning (and praying), they seem to be working but there were some casualties. My Leica case was eaten away but it did protect my Leica and my Canon Elph had some staining on the outside but the mechanics still function. In lieu of this disaster, I need to protect my beloved SX-70 polaroid camera immediately. I found & love this one from the Impossible Project. I'm in love with this tan case and it will protect my camera from any unforeseeable spills. Phew!

One of my biggest weaknesses are pickles. Yep, It's true. I could seriously eat a jar at a time but I don't because then I wouldn't have any for the next day. We recently purchased a box of ball mason jars and my husband decided to make his own pickles. We only had to wait 24 hours to taste and enjoy! They are (were) crisp and delicious! I can't believe how "quick" and easy it is to make your own pickles! If you search "quick pickles" you can find a recipe online to make your own. I think the next time we make them, I'll take photos of the complete process. Yum!!

Last week, I visited the expanded Highline on a beautiful summer day. I started at west 30th street and 10th avenue hoping to catch the Rainbow City exhibit but unfortunately, I missed it. I walked through The Lot from Colicchio & Sons (of Top Chef fame) which was a great hidden beer garden with a few food trucks for snacks. I walked down to west 14th street taking photos along the way. I love that the city took a old, abandoned railway and made it into a public space for everyone to enjoy. Can't wait till the whole thing is finished. It's gonna be great!

Impossible Project Space, SoHo NYC

I finally visited the Impossible Project Space in SoHo last week! I needed some more polaroid film and decided to visit the space in person instead of ordering online. Oh man, I was in polaroid heaven the moment I walked in! All of the vintage camera's and great prints were so inspiring. I happily left with a few packs of film (PX 70 color shade and original spectra film) for the rest of the summer. If you're in the city, I would highly recommend stopping by for a quick visit. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Our family's dog, Maggie, is going to be 16 by the end of the year and we are all so happy that she's doing ok. She's in (pretty) good health but does need some meds to ease her arthritis. Awww, I wish dogs could talk so they could really let us know what is wrong. Well, miss maggie looks pretty happy here and she even has a mole like her sister....ummm, me!
